Hi Everyone!!

First of all, Happy New Year to you all. I hope 2014 brings much goodness and happiness to your life.

If you’re a regular visitor of my blog, you’ll notice that I generally don’t post anything except for my book reviews and the tour posts. Since this is not a personal blog for chit-chats, I’d like to keep it that way. But today is a big day for Punya Reviews..., hence this post.

It’s been 2-and-a-half years that I’ve started this blog, initially as a place to keep my Goodreads reviews. I never really thought beyond it at that time. But ever since I regularly started taking part in blog tours in the mid-2012, I kept thinking of doing a giveaway of my own. I wanted to show my appreciation to anyone who has been to my blog in the past, commented and/or shared contents. It’s been a kernel of my thought for the last few months...

... Until sometimes after the 20th of this December, I just thought ‘what-the-heck’ and went ahead, inviting five Historical Romance authors, asking if they want to join my wobbly journey of ‘a-noob’s-first-giveaway’ (laugh away!). To my surprise, all of them agreed with enthusiasm, which in turn provided me with enough zeal to move forward and seriously start planning on it. Goddess Fish, of whose proud blog tour partner I am, also made me a happy girl by responding to my request for a giveaway banner (I suck at those :( ).

Now, I’ve put together a giveaway in such an astonishingly short amount of time that even I’m surprised. This giveaway is going to be a New Year celebratory giveaway of 5 awesome Historical Romances by authors Anna Campbell, Deb Marlowe, Jenn Langston, Sandra Schwab and Kate Rothwell. Each author has agreed to donate a 2013 published book from their backlist. This is a giveaway of ebooks for everybody’s convenience. And we’re choosing ONE WINNER who’d win ALL 5 books!

The giveaway is officially titled “Punya’s New Year Historical Romance Bundle Giveaway”, running date 8th-18th January, 2014. Charming Man’s Senseless Journey

I am indebted to Punya for offering me the chance to write a few words on her wonderful blog. At the outset, she explained to me that she rarely does author interviews, so she very much left the content of my post up to me; and rather like the groom whispering in the ear of his best man on his wedding day, she asked me not to make it too long!

During my university days, I shared a house with ten fellow inmates, most of us engineers and natural science students.  There was, however, one mature student amongst us, who was studying philosophy and theology.  He was a strange animal; he spent his days with his nose in a book, seldom had any lectures and seemed to be having an easy ride.  I say that, because us techie geeks had a most rigorous timetable, often attending over thirty hours of lectures a week, on top of practical assessments and compulsory tutor groups.Fast forward to the end of our final year and we’re all down the pub celebrating the end of a gruelling week of exams that would determine our future.  The philosopher was already in the pub, musing over the bitch of a final paper he’d been faced with that morning.  Surely nothing as complicated as we’d been subjected to, we joshed, as we sipped our first pint.  He sighed dejectedly and told us that the paper comprised one question, which read: Write a question and then answer it; a three hour paper and presumably he had to show all his workings!

Clearly this story has stuck with me over the years, but only now do I have a use for it.  Punya doesn’t want to interview me… (Punya rolls her eyes at that)  So I figured why not interview myself?  OK, I promise to try and make this quick!

He practiced smiling.

Looking in the mirror, Martin pulled up the corners of his mouth, trying to duplicate the expression of the blond-haired man on the TV with the big forehead. Something wasn’t right—the eyebrows? His eyes darted back and forth f rom the mirror to the television, posing, making adjustments here and there…lips down, more teeth…comparing…nope. After a few minutes, his face started to hurt and he gave up.

He did push-ups instead. Push-ups were easy. He did two hundred before he had to stop and change the channel. A show called The Nanny had come on and he leapt up like a cat as soon as he heard her whiny voice. He pressed the remote button with blinding speed-click, click, click, click, click-until he found an old black-and-white movie. Good. He liked those. He went back to his push-ups, his face tilted up so he wouldn’t miss a thing.

In the movie there was a woman who was worried that this man didn’t love her anymore. She didn’t know it, but the man was worried that the woman didn’t love him either. They spent all this time (he couldn’t even count how many push-ups) trying to make each other jealous, hoping that would make the other one love them again. Martin didn’t understand any of it. He looked at them laughing and smiling while they tried to trick and embarrass each other, then went to the mirror and practiced again.

It still didn’t look right.
