Three Proposals and a Scandal (novella)
Sons of Sin #4.5

Anna Campbell
Historical Romance
Published in 2015

H/h - Elias Thorne, Baron Wilmot/Lady Marianne Seaton
Setting: England, 1829.

Read in September, 2015.
My rating:

                                                    [spoiler alert]

Three Proposals and A Scandal is Anna Campbell’s latest in her Sons of Sin series. It’s a series I have mixed feelings about. While I liked some of the installments, others proved to be utterly disappointing. This short, surprise novella proved to be the former.

I’d say it’d be great if you read the series in order to be introduced to the characters that were featured in this novella, especially book 3, What a Duke Dares. The original Sons of Sin, 3 childhood best friends Jonas, Richard and Cam, are not directly a part but Jonas, his wife Sidonie, Richard and his wife Genevieve played their roles accordingly as the story was largely set in Jonas’s country estate.

Our hero, Elias and heroine, Marianne were introduced in book 3, Cam and Penelope’s story as secondary characters. Elias is Penelope’s younger brother, the current baron Wilmot after the passing of their elder brother, Peter, who was also Cam’s good friend. Marianne, on the other hand, was engaged to Cam for a while; an arranged affair where no love was lost between the two.

A Scoundrel by Moonlight
Sons of Sin #4

Anna Campbell
Historical Romance
Published in 2015

H/h - James Fairbrother, the Marquess of Leath/Nell Trim
Setting: London, 1828.

Read in June/July, 2015.
My rating:

                                                  [spoiler alert]

Another disappointing installment in Anna Cambell’s Sons of Sin series, A Scoundrel by Moonlight started out rather well. I was rooting for the Marquess of Leath even after his disastrous intro in the previous installments and wanted to know more about him. Unfortunately, Nell Trim, the h, was the one who ruined it for me pretty much.

The Sons of Sin series basically tells the story of 3 friends who are burdened by the truth of their illegitimate birth, the one thing they have in common and made them stick together since they met as children, to fight the judgmental society. In their adulthood, Jonas, Richard and Cam are still together in their struggle, even though they are privileged people of the society. We’ve read their stories in the previous installments where each of them found love in the women they came to adore.

In Seven Nights in a Rogue’s Bed, dark and scarred Jonas Merrick used to hide away in his gothic castle and had a scandalous reputation as a prolific gambler and a lady’s man. When Sidonie comes to his doorstep in hopes to help her flighty sister off a gambling debt held by Jonas, the rogue in question drives a hard bargain. She has to spend seven nights in his bed, all his to do whatever he wants to and he’ll do whatever possible to help her. In the end, that bargain was all they needed as Jonas found love with Sidonie.

What a Duke Dares
Sons of Sin #3

H/h - Camden Rothermere, the Duke of Sedgemoor/Penelope Thorne
Setting: England, 1828.

Anna Campbell’s Sons of Sin book 3, What a Duke Dares, was one of my anticipated releases of this year. I’m really hooked in this series, so definitely wanted to read Cam’s book as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The storyline was going SO WELL for the first 150 pages that I thought finally a 5 star read! The rest, sadly, didn’t even begin compare.

Jonas is rich but he’s scarred both inside out, needing a soft touch in his life. Richard is a baronet and a charming rake. Widows certainly don’t bother about his illegitimacy when they fall into his bed! Cam is the Duke, who is very serious about upholding the moral codes and pristine reputation as his status befits.

The series starts with Jonas’s story, book 1, Seven Nights in a Rogue’s Bed. Burdened with a facial scar marring his face, Jonas has lived alone for the most part of this life. Oh he has had women, and he’s good too, but they don’t want the lights on! When he’s resorted to spending his life this way, Sidonie enters in it. She finds herself on his doorstep due to a gambling debt from her flighty, selfish elder sister. One look at her, and Jonas knew he doesn’t want to let her go, though he knows, eventually she’ll leave him. So the rogue in question drives a hard bargain. She has to spend seven nights in his bed, all his to do whatever he wants to and he’ll do whatever possible to help her. I found it superb that Sidonie was neither appalled by his looks, nor revolted by his demands. The chemistry was sizzling from the very first moment. Loved how they came to know each-other, through sex and then conversations, trust and finally, love. Seven nights are not enough to fall in love, yet that’s what happened. Later on, trouble and a rather silly misunderstanding threaten to tear them apart but they overcome it together.

Setting: England, 1827.

Read in June, 2014.
My rating:

Anna Campbell’s A Rake's Midnight Kiss was a rather pleasant surprise. I generally love Anna’s writing but sometimes the stories don’t seem to live up to my expectations.

The Sons of Sin series tells the story of 3 friends who are burdened by the truth of their illegitimate birth, the one thing they have in common. The one thing that made them stick together since they met as children, to fight the judgmental society. Some of them are noblemen, some are not. In their adulthood, Jonas, Richard and Cam are still together in their struggle, even though they are privileged people of the society. Jonas is rich but he’s scarred both inside out, needing a soft touch in his life. Richard is a baronet and a charming rake. Widows certainly don’t bother about his illegitimacy when they fall into his bed! Cam is the Duke, a bit more broody and serious than Richard.

The series starts with Jonas’s story, book 1, Seven Nights in a Rogue's Bed. Jonas has lived alone almost all his life. Though he has not lived like a monk, his facial scars repulse most people. He’s good in bed and women would sleep with him given the incentive but in one condition. They want the lights turned off. It was because of a gambling debt is why Sidonie finds herself in his doorstep. She wanted him to forgive her flighty and rather selfish sister’s debt. One look at her, and Jonas knew he doesn’t want to let her go, though he knows, eventually she’ll leave him. So the rogue in question drives a hard bargain. She has to spend seven nights in his bed, all his to do whatever he wants to and he’ll do whatever possible. Happy New Year... and a Giveaway!

Wednesday, January 01, 2014

Hi Everyone!!

First of all, Happy New Year to you all. I hope 2014 brings much goodness and happiness to your life.

If you’re a regular visitor of my blog, you’ll notice that I generally don’t post anything except for my book reviews and the tour posts. Since this is not a personal blog for chit-chats, I’d like to keep it that way. But today is a big day for Punya Reviews..., hence this post.

It’s been 2-and-a-half years that I’ve started this blog, initially as a place to keep my Goodreads reviews. I never really thought beyond it at that time. But ever since I regularly started taking part in blog tours in the mid-2012, I kept thinking of doing a giveaway of my own. I wanted to show my appreciation to anyone who has been to my blog in the past, commented and/or shared contents. It’s been a kernel of my thought for the last few months...

... Until sometimes after the 20th of this December, I just thought ‘what-the-heck’ and went ahead, inviting five Historical Romance authors, asking if they want to join my wobbly journey of ‘a-noob’s-first-giveaway’ (laugh away!). To my surprise, all of them agreed with enthusiasm, which in turn provided me with enough zeal to move forward and seriously start planning on it. Goddess Fish, of whose proud blog tour partner I am, also made me a happy girl by responding to my request for a giveaway banner (I suck at those :( ).

Now, I’ve put together a giveaway in such an astonishingly short amount of time that even I’m surprised. This giveaway is going to be a New Year celebratory giveaway of 5 awesome Historical Romances by authors Anna Campbell, Deb Marlowe, Jenn Langston, Sandra Schwab and Kate Rothwell. Each author has agreed to donate a 2013 published book from their backlist. This is a giveaway of ebooks for everybody’s convenience. And we’re choosing ONE WINNER who’d win ALL 5 books!

The giveaway is officially titled “Punya’s New Year Historical Romance Bundle Giveaway”, running date 8th-18th January, 2014. I’ll also add a new page on my page list as Punya Reviews Current Giveaway. Clicking on it will take you to the current blog giveaway post. The details on how to enter will be on the blog post, so please be sure to mark January 8th and join us here on Punya Reviews…!

I look forward to receiving you.

Days of Rakes and Roses (novella)
Sons of Sin #1.5

Anna Campbell
Historical Romance
Published in 2013

H/h - Simon Metcalf/Lady Lydia Rothermere
Setting: London, 1826.

Read in July, 2013.
My rating:

I was really looking forward to Days of Rakes and Roses by Anna Campbell ever since I found out about it. But unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this novella. I could barely stand the characters and their activities throughout, so it barely made 3 stars. Too bad, the cover is so lovely!

When I read book 1, Seven Nights in a Rogue's Bed (which I LOVED), I found no indication that there might be a novella. We met Jonas’s (H of book 1) friends, Camden and Richard though. This story takes place a little earlier. Lydia, the h, is Cam’s sister, who was briefly mentioned in book 1.

Seven Nights in a Rogue’s Bed
Sons of Sin #1

Anna Campbell
Historical Romance
Pub date: 25 Sept, 2012 (ARC review)

H/h - Jonas Merrick/Sidonie Forsythe
Setting: Devon, England, 1836.

Read in Sept, 2012.
My rating:

                                              [spoiler alert]

Seven Nights in a Rogue’s Bed is the first book in AC’s new series Sons of Sin. I haven’t read AC’s book for a while now, but I was eagerly waiting for this installment. I can say this lived up to my expectations and more. The story was awesome. The hero Jonas, a sexy babe and the heroine, Sidonie, quite lovable. The whole atmosphere of this novel had a Gothic feeling and I presume AC meant to make it so. Her writing was, as usual, excellent. I loved how smoothly I cruised through the story with her narratives!
