H/h - Lord Drake Byron/Sebastianne Dumont
Setting: London, 1813.

Read in Oct, 2011.
My rating:

                                                                     [spoiler alert]

TAW’s books have had some mixed reviews from me. Some were great, some ok while the others just weren’t up to the mark. If I talk about The Byrons Series, I must say I liked most of the books (my absolute favorite being book #4). So, when I heard that despite having 8 siblings, The Byrons Series will come to an end with Drake’s book, I was very sad. I love the family itself and in each book, one or more siblings getting married, having kids, the brothers, the wives, the kids and their banters... I simply adore it. I wished I could say the same for this book. It was not up to the mark. I didn’t dislike the story mind you, still think it had great potentials but just wasn’t executed well enough. So, I ended up with something very tepid (even love scene-wise and I know TAW can write some hot hot love scenes along with amazing sexual tension, enough to turn me into mush lolz). Alas but not in this one!

Would you believe it when I say, I've only started reading it last night and already halfway through? I am actually enjoying it quite a lot. I love this theme of hero/heroine loving the other for a long time, if the author can pull it through well enough. Adam is just that and TAW, so far has done a good job. This one's the most fast paced of her books, at least for me. I loved the whole Byron family, their easy banters, specially between the sisters-in-law Meg, Claire and Grace. I felt a lot for Mallory when they'd talk about their lives, husbands and kids. All the hullabaloo in the family gathering.

Have to say I'm liking it. No matter that I've read so many negative reviews here, no matter that I've only read abt 12 chps. I know people can find Claire very irritating at times and childish. I agree that she sometimes is but when I step into her shoes, I can easily see why she is doing all these things, however 'stupid'. When I'm there, I hear a cry for help, a plea to be heard and man, don't like the oppressive feeling of it one bit! When men can be such arrogant arses and decide they know better and start arranging lives, what can a Regency era woman do? I know it's a novel and I also think the situation is very common. What I like so far is Claire didn't give in so easily, she is quite subtle in her rebellions that leave Edward to think 'what the heck' lolz. I like that. ;)

My rating: 4 out of 5

                                                            [spoiler alert]

Well, Jack is beginning to sound like Tony (including the mistress scene, grrr!), so have to see what he's got for me and I don't mean the obvious ... ahemm

Grace, well, she has to show more spirit and fire, as she isn't 17 but a 25 yrs old. So far I like her but not exactly impressed. Read 4 chps so its far too early to say anything else and the rating is quite good.

Must say I'm loving this one so much that already read 8 chps. So much more enjoyable that I was hooked from the very first page. I so love Cade, felt so much for him that just wanna drag him outta book and give him a tight hug and lots of kisses! :( I have a thing for scarred/tortured heroes, ex-soldiers with PTSD theme and this one's proving to be quite good. Another book I really really loved was Lord of Ice, I adored Damien so much. I only hope this one is almost as good as Lord of Ice. The heroine, Meg, is very warm, nice and sensible, someone matured enough to handle Cade IMO. Fingers crossed. :)

                                                                             [spoiler alert]

Nope, I guessed wrong (read my review of The Accidental Mistress). This one's kinda becoming annoying too. The hero, Anthony, is the type who'll never get any respect from me, the kind who thinks apart from virgins, own relatives and relatives to one's cronies, all the other women are good for the 'plucking'! Huh?! Really, sounds very humiliating to me. I don't know yet what happened to him to not to get settled but at 35 he should've. I've read in some other novel that if a man didn't get settled after 35, he was a known roué back then. Well, our Tony is a duke, so everything's forgiven I guess. I didn't particularly want to read that scene in the beginning of chap 3 and how he'd 'taken his latest mistress in various inventive ways' because I just don't wanna know that part, plain and simple. Then again, there are books where these types of scenes are mentioned, even in Dreaming of You and personally, it was hard for me to swallow (don't know how Sara endured the 'blabbering' of Derek's lunatic ex-mistress in the end :( ). Now, my point is, I don't like the way he thinks about Gabriella. Even after knowing who Gabriella is and how young she is, how the heck can he fantasize about her? Sometimes it's making me gag, seriously. He himself calls her 'child' *gag*.

Hahhhh *sighing* ... Really, some stuffs are bothering me a lot. I don't like it when the heroines are easy conquests, so, whatever Lily is thinking/trying to pass herself as, she's just that. Arghh!

Just read 4/5 chps and have to say, it started off very good. I LOVE the heroine, Julianna. Dark hair-eyed with a 'goddess' body (according to Rafe :p). Well, not only that, I'm just liking her a lot, temperament and all. Rafe is intriguing, dark haired and vivid green-eyed. I'd love to discover more about him as I progress! ;) Love scene, the only one I've read so far was yum! OK, gotta hop on to bed now and read ... :p

I've read 8 chps and I'm not still not into it. The storyline is usual, not bad yet not quite grabbing me the way I thought it would. Feels too much like Romancing Mister Bridgerton, only Eliza isn't as impressive as Penelope, yet!

H/h - Darragh O'Brien/Jeannette Brantford
Setting: Ireland, 1817.

Read in Feb, 2011.

My rating: 4 out of 5

                                                                 [spoiler alert]

Truth be told, didn't quite expect to enjoy it this much given Jeannette's tantrums, mood swings and mischief fit for a 7 yrs. old but somehow she isn't quite the evil I so sensed in her in The Husband Trap, not yet at least. On the other hand, another reason might be Darragh, I fell for him the moment I met him, he is so witty and sweet. So, couldn't put the book down, at least read 7 chaps before I was done with a headache lolz. It should've been grating to see her being insanely childish about the starting of early morning construction work in her cousin's house which is supposedly ruining her sleep, since she never rises before 10am. Darragh foiling all her usual attempts to bend things her way with his wit and cunning is a pleasure to read. I also see some vulnerabilities in Jeannette and Darragh might be the right person to handle her, so far he has impressed me quite a lot. ;)

My rating: 3.75 out of 5

                                                                         [spoiler alert]

My 1st Tracy Anne Warren novel. Yet to feel it but I wanna see how the deception is revealed. Doesn't Violet's name differ from Jeannette's? Is the marriage still valid? Jeannette is so vain, self-centered and irritating that just memorizing the spelling of her name is a chore for me! I'm not really looking forward for her book. And what of the parents, specially the mother? How can she prefar one girl over the other? Really, what kinda mother is she? Finally, Adrian can't say a line without 'my dear' which is becoming annoying. I thought he'd be hotter, steamier ... I really love his name. Hmmph!
