When I hear ‘Elliott Mabeuse’, the only thing I can think of is kinda loco, yet intensely hot BDSM stories. Those might or might not be my cuppa, still I’m so addicted that I always pick up a book by this author, new or old. So when I started Vampires of Prague, I expected something in the similar vein, only to stumble upon something quite different than his usual BDSM romps. A very solidly written erotic horror/paranormal story with a hot vampire hero and a feisty, devoted heroine, Vampires of Prague is much longer than the other stories I’ve read by EM, with a substantial plot and storytelling.Set against the backdrop WWII, the story starts out with our h, Lydia, a Czechoslovakian, travelling by train, on her way home. She was supposed to be meeting Prof. Henckele, with whom she has previously done some research work, at the train station. But he, as usual, didn’t show up. The Prof. is very keen on the mythological subjects and folklores, his study centering on the vampires. The only joke is his staunch belief that vampires exist among us. To Lydia, it’s so unbelievable that she is currently doing a research on how vampires are a manifestation of weak, sex deprived women’s daydreams or sexually charged nightmares; that, vampires are wicked, evil beings but they certainly do not exist. I mean yah, if someone said to me they exist, I’d laugh at them, so I could see where Lydia was going and why she thought the Prof. a bit crazy. Then, at first, hearing the word ‘professor’, I thought he’d be our hero (why? If you’ve read EM’s others novels, you’d know why :p). Soon, I was divested of that notion as our H, one Dr. Szandor Arnyak steps in.

Ooookie, this was weird. In fact, so weird that I’m not sure where to start or what to write in my review.

I’ve read weird stuff from EM before, so I shouldn’t be surprised or even (I hope) stare blankly at the book... but, I did.

I had a lot of high hopes for this book, mostly because the theme intrigued me, also this got some really positive reviews altogether. Then again, I’ve been a student of Literature myself and the theme tickled some of my secret fantasies. lol Even though a big age difference generally turns me off, I still gave it a go. But I ended up being bored by the time I was about 70% into the book. It honestly felt like dragging on, without much happening.

Another crazy Dr. Mabeuse book and I’m not sure what to feel about it overall. I only know that I have this strange fascination with his stories; even though there are elements I find offensive and thoughts I don’t at all agree with, I still read them. I was almost giving it a 2 star when I fortunately got the lessons it offered, which saved the book for me. Guess I should’ve put a bit more trust in Dr. Mabeuse.

I don’t know, every time I finish one of Dr. Mabeuse’s books, I totally go tra-la-la-la-la. Don’t look at me like that! I’m amazed to find he can play with my mind like he does with his characters. The situation was entirely creepy... EM does great creepy situations, I find that I like those ‘creepy’ situations *stares out the window with a blank look* but in RL, I’ll definitely freak out and would be calling the cop first. But, this is not RL so I was safe to think that some good shagging with a hot blackmailer is just the thing I need, er, Helene needs. Lol

This free novella is about one night in a shadowy corner of a stadium with the narrator (name unknown), a poet in the making (or so I understood) and his possible the then girlfriend Jessica. It was a quick read. I give this a 3.5 star simply because the sex was hot. It could’ve been 4 for me if there was an implication of something special blossoming between them and then perhaps turned into something deeper. But, I was pretty sure she was just a girlfriend and the sex was really good as I got it, that they found something sacred between this exchange of their bodies.
