Layers Peeled, book 2 in the Layers Trilogy by Lacey Silks started out rather promisingly. I felt that the middle half was kinda dragging, lacking the nerve-wrecking suspense and action of Layers Deep. But, the author has a way of keeping me guessing of what’s going to happen next. I kept reading to find out exactly what she had in store for Tristan and Allie... and for us in this installment of the trilogy.

If you haven’t, consider starting the series with the prequel, Dazzled by Silver. Though it’s not directly connected to book 1 and 2, our H and h, Tristan and Allie were briefly introduced there. We also are introduced to the prominent Cross Enterprises; Tristan’s family business. They do all sorts of spy and detective work through this organization comprising of Tristan, his twin Julian, their father Mr. Cross. Even their mother is a part of it, younger sister Emma already being a trainee of sort. H of Dazzled by Silver, Gabriel, a brilliant PI on his own right, is Tristan’s cousin and a part of this organization.

I’m definitely getting addicted to Ms. Silks’ writing, which I already knew to be rather good. The first book of Layers Trilogy, Layers Deep, brings another sexy and smart PI, Tristan Cross. I didn’t remember Allie from Dazzled by Silver as she had a very small, unremarkable role there. Nevertheless, I enjoyed their instant, explosive chemistry right from the start.

Dazzled by Silver, a prequel of sort to the Layers Trilogy, introduced Tristan to us. The H, Gabriel is his cousin and was working for his family farm, the prominent Cross Enterprises. Tristan had a small but prominent role too as he helps Gabriel from a rather deep mess with a mafia gang. There was the mention of Tristan’s ex, Kendra, who got herself in trouble for money and drugs with the same mafia group. Tristan asked Gabriel to keep an eye on her, which Gabriel did. At one point, he had to return and take Kendra to hands so that she doesn’t get herself in any further trouble. But at the end we learn that Kendra had somehow disappeared from under Tristan’s watch. There was no indication if she ran under pressure or was kidnapped.

Lacey Silks’ Dazzled By Silver was an interesting erotic suspense with a love story between a sexy Private Investigator and one proverbial ‘damsel in distress’. I enjoyed the storyline a lot and Ms. Silks’ writing style. It was flowing and kept me hooked most of the times. However there was one detail that I didn’t like and it hampered my enjoyment a lot. I’ll try to elaborate as I go.

Samantha’s love life has been in shambles for too long. Very recently, she got rid of her boyfriend of 2 yrs., a jerk, with whom she had a relationship that at best can be called ‘awkward’. She thought she loved him, and so stuck with him. Anyhoo, to make matters short, even though it has ended, it left Samantha which a very low self-esteem. But she’s willing to pick up the pieces and move on which is why, right now, Samantha is not looking for any relationship with commitment. So when her BFF Kendra asks her to join her newly opened nightclub, which would surely provide enough ‘diversion’ for Samantha from her break-up blues, she jumps to the opportunity. The story actually starts when they’re in that crowded nightclub, together and Samantha zooms on the sexy, tanned bartender with the beautiful gray eyes.
