Midnight Scandals (Anthology)

Carolyn Jewel
Courtney Milan
Sherry Thomas

Historical Romance
Published in 2012

Read in Oct, 2012.
My rating:

                                                          [spoiler alert]

Note: My review and rating is overall (3.5 stars) based on Carolyn Jewel’s “One Starlit Night” (3.5), Courtney Milan’s “What Happened at Midnight” (3.5) and “A Dance in Moonlight” by Sherry Thomas (3.5).

If you’ve read the little note on Courtney Milan’s website, you’d know that all three stories in this novella take place in Doyle’s Grange, Exmoor, time-frame spanning from 1813 to 1856 to 1896.

Trial by Desire
Carhart #2

Courtney Milan
Historical Romance
Published in 2010

H/h - Edward Carhart/Lady Kathleen Carhart
Setting: London, 1841.

Read in Sept, 2011.
My rating:

I was hoping against hope that Ned’s book would turn out to be something amazing but came out with a lot of disappointments. The writing was good but there were lack of humorous moments I so enjoyed in Proof by Seduction. I couldn’t connect with the characters, wasn’t really interested in Ned’s monologues on his ‘dark despair’ because I thought he was just wasting time and really got frustrated how he kept on pushing Kate away, even though he’s the one who left her in the 1st place. I REALLY hate to say this but the whole book was one huge boredom for me. It was a trial for me for sure, mostly because I was very confused about the desire part throughout the book since sexual tension was lacking decidedly in it!

Note: this review and rating is solely based on Courtney Milan’s novella, “This Wicked Gift”, which is a part of her Carhart series.

“This Wicked Gift”, Courtney Milan
Carhart #0.5

H/h - William White/Lavinia Spencer
Setting: London, 1822.

I mean wow wow wow! Such a wonderful novella! A beautiful story between two souls that clicked and fitted in a way I didn’t think I’d find in a novella. Courtney Milan’s “This Wicked Gift” stole my heart, so did William. If you’ve read her Carhart series, you’d know William White from book #1, who works as Gareth’s man of affair. I never would’ve thought what a sexy darling he would be. I didn’t read the novella before Proof by Seduction so I had no idea. I thought he’s just another secondary character, with a boring life. OMG but didn’t he prove me wrong? His and Lavinia’s chemistry was so intense and his need for Lavinia was so strong... Ah, all I can do is *sigh* This book takes place about 15 or so years before Proof by Seduction.

Proof by Seduction was my first Courtney Milan book. I’ve heard good things about her books, yet honestly I didn’t know what to expect. I really liked this book, yet there were times I was frustrated more than once, wasn’t sure where the H/h are going and how their ‘situation’ would be ultimately solved. But in the end, I know Gareth won me over though I wish it didn’t take these two for such a long time to see reason.
