My rating:

Short smut doesn’t begin to explain how short this story was. So short that it should’ve been a freebie! The original story is about 14 pages, the rest few pages are of an excerpt of one of the author’s other book. I'm reducing 0.5 of my original 3.5 rating just for this, though it had the potentials to be a 4+ stars for me.

I read it because the mention of Cupid and Psyche erotic retelling totally caught my attention. If you’ve read the original myth, you’ll probably know how Psyche was left at the top of a hill as a sacrifice and was awaiting her supposed death at the hands of a monster. Rather, she’s brought into this beautiful place by some unseen force, where she is again, left alone..... The details in my memory is rather sketchy at the moment but as a teenager, I always wondered what exactly Cupid did to Psyche during his nightly visits (hence it’s a fantasy of mine)... :p The translated version I read never mentioned their bedroom activities for sure.

So yes, Stranger in the Dark gives you the imaginative details of what Cupid might’ve been doing to Psyche. Who knew that the God of Love and Passion had the penchant for binding his beautiful captive to bed before proceeding to the next part? ;) Don’t expect the whole story from the beginning, just what happens to Psyche after she’s brought to the place where she is kept.

Now, just when the good part was starting to happen, with me becoming totally engrossed, is when the story ends. I might’ve thought the story would continue on after Psyche finds out exactly who has held her captive... but no, it doesn’t. And I’m left hanging about what happens next.

Needless to say, I wasn’t amused. 3 stars.
