A Most Scandalous Proposal

Ashlyn Macnamara
Historical Romance
Pub date: 26 Feb, 2013 (ARC review)

H/h - Benedict Revelstoke/Julia St. Claire
Setting: Regency England.

Read in Feb, 2013.
My rating:

                                        [spoiler alert]

Ashlyn Macnamara’s debut novel, A Most Scandalous Proposal, was an enjoyable read; at least for the most part. What really bugged me were the activities of the two sisters, Julia and Sophia. The heroes, Benedict and Rufus were adorable, and this book is worth reading only for them. But when you have two great heroes and then you find the heroines being ninny and pushing them away (while you’re screaming ‘WTF woman??!!’). You’re sometimes bound to do some *headdesk* along the way.

What Happens in Scotland

Jennifer McQuiston
Historical Romance
Pub date: 26 Feb, 2013 (ARC review)

H/h - James MacKenzie/Lady Georgette Thorold
Setting: Scotland, 1842.

Read in Feb, 2013.
My rating:

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a sucker for anything based in the Highlands/Scotland; a good story full of fun, a sexy Highlander/Scottish hero paired with a strong yet loving heroine. What Happens in Scotland by Jennifer McQuiston had it all. In fact, I was very impressed with this debut novel, as for me, it had not one single boring moment. I loved the story, which was pretty original, loved the author’s writing and wicked wit that had me laughing a lot. This is a book I highly recommend to anyone who wants to spend some fun time with an engaging storyline with some interesting characters.

The Silken Cord

Leigh Bale
Medieval Romance/Inspiritional
Published in 2013

H/h - Wulfgar de Conteville, the Earl of Glyndwr/Princess Ariana of Welsh
Setting: In the time of William the Conqueror.

Read in Jan/Feb 2013.
My rating:

Have to be honest here that I’ve never read anything by Leigh Bale, until I saw this freakin’ GORGEOUS cover that just sucked me right in, which is why I jumped into reading The Silken Cord. I also love medieval romance. The starting of this book was excellent, I got hooked from the first chapter. But as mentioned, it is more of an inspirational story than the kind of intense and hot romance I’m used to with. But I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy it. Our hero, Wulfgar was damned sexy.

If only... *sigh*

The Water Witch
Fairwick Chronicles #2

Juliet Dark (a.k.a Carol Goodman)
Contemporary/Fantasy/Paranormal
Pub date: 12 Feb, 2013 (ARC review)

H/h - The Incubus (Bill/Liam)/Callie McFay
Setting: Present time.

Read in Feb, 2013.
My rating:

                                                               [spoiler alert]

The Water Witch, for me, was a bit disappointing. Romance was still quite lacking and Callie was pretty clumsy throughout the story, missing obvious clues about things and being attracted to whichever guy made a move on her. I still couldn’t connect to her. But the story overall was enthralling as usual. JD kept me hooked till the end, because now I just need to know what’s gonna happen next!

If you haven’t read The Demon Lover, you should since this series is very intertwined and you’d probably feel lost not knowing what happened to Callie and how she found herself in the midst of all these supernatural hullaballoo.

The Demon Lover
Fairwick Chronicles #1

Juliet Dark (a.k.a Carol Goodman)

Setting: Present time.

I picked up The Demon Lover, first, because the cover is so lovely! Second, the thought of an Incubus lover was... umm, intriguing. I wanted to know what happens and how the heroine is possessed by him and all that. While reading the book though, I loved some parts, some parts were disappointing, even extremely annoying. I got confused about various Supernatural entities, some I’ve never even heard of. Yet, this book was full of surprises that held me enthralled. I loved Juliet Dark’s writing as this is my introduction to her work. I loved the whole atmosphere she created in The Demon Lover. Romance was sorely lacking IMO, sex scenes notwithstanding and yet I was so engrossed in the story that by the time it ended I NEEDED to know what happens next.

Waltz of Seduction (novella)

Natasha Blackthorne
Historical Romance/Erotica
Published in 2011

H/h - Lord Colin Lockhart/Lady Sara Lockhart
Setting: Victorian London.

Read in Feb, 2013.
My rating:

Waltz of Seduction is a novella by Natasha Blackthorne. I thought of trying one of NB’s stories, and the blurb of this one drew me in. I do love a good married couple story, more so when they’re secretly in love with one another, as Colin and Sara were in this one.
