Is it crazy to be jealous of a fictional character?

While Mary Sue is proud of her construction-worker husband Billy's new-found success as an author of spanking novels, she also finds herself resentful of Beverly Golightly, the fictional heroine who gets everything Mary Sue wants: her man's undivided attention, lots of hot loving, and many delicious spankings.

But is Mary Sue's jealousy any crazier than the plan she hatches to recapture her husband's attention?

An Excerpt from Stolen Moments:

You’re not going to wear that shirt are you?” Mary Sue demanded from the doorway of Billy’s office. Although his carryall rested packed and ready beside her suitcase, seeing him hunched over his laptop caused a bad premonition to curl in her stomach. Call it misgivings.

Billy spun around.

One glimpse of his face told her everything she needed to know.

“No! Billy, no.” Mary Sue shook her head. “Damn it, you promised.” She blinked back tears.

“Wait. Wait.” He leaped out of his chair. “I’m not cancelling. Just…amending. The publication date of Mishaps has been moved up by a month and half, and I got the first got round of edits this morning. I’ll do them today, and we can leave tomorrow—”

“That’s not what you said!”

“I didn’t know this would happen. I assumed I had another few weeks. We can still make it work.”

“I don’t want to make it work! I want what we had planned. What you promised me. Why I am I always last on your list?”

“That’s not true.” He reached out to her.

“It is true.” She jerked away, and flung her hand at his computer. “Finish your story.” She stomped out of his office.

Mary Sue grabbed her suitcase from beside the back door, dragged it into the bedroom, and hefted it onto the bed. Why did I believe him? I should have known better. Go away for the weekend? Yeah, right. I hate Beverly. I hate her, I hate her! Tears blurred her vision, and she fumbled for the zipper to open her bag.

“What are you doing?” Billy asked. He’d followed her into the bedroom.

“What does it look like I’m doing?” She tore open her suitcase. “I’m unpacking.” She grabbed the sexy nightie she’d packed with such anticipation and turned toward her dresser.

Billy blocked her path. “Put that back. We’re still going to go.”
