Once-famous singer Anjuli Carver has returned to tiny Heaverlock Village alone and nearly broke. She’s poured every last penny into a rambling Victorian manor, hoping to start over. Trouble is, her money pit is falling to pieces and the only restoration architect for miles is Rob Douglas…her ex-fiancé.

For eight years, Rob has regretted not telling Anjuli why he never answered her letters. Being left at the altar broke his heart, but being used for sex one night in London after the fact nearly drove him to the edge of sanity, and he’ll be damned if he allows Anjuli to wreak havoc on his life again. He’ll restore her manor, all right, and give her taste of her own medicine while he’s at it.

But how long can revenge last when memories of their shared past keep rushing to the surface?

Soon, Rob wants answers. Why did Anjuli leave the international spotlight to become a recluse in the Scottish Borderlands? And why does she refuse to sing? Anjuli wants nothing more than to be left alone with her grief, even as she struggles to keep her sexy fantasies about Rob in check. With gossipy villagers, interfering friends and more secrets between them than notes on a scale, Anjuli and Rob will need to find forgiveness in order to work together, then decide if they’re willing to risk it all on an encore performance.

Interview:

What are four things you can’t live without?

I think it goes without saying that I cannot live without my family, so I’m sneaking them in before I answer this question. That leaves me with my other no-way-in-hell-am-I-going-to-survive-on-this-earth-without-this list, in no particular order:

Music: it’s in my blood, in my fingers and constantly inside my head. About fifteen years ago I taught myself to play the piano and I need to feel those ivory keys under my fingertips once a day to feel sane. As for listening music, I have eclectic tastes, from Rachmaninoff to Roy Rogers (blame my American father for that one!), and Celia Cruz to Cristina Aguilera. I enjoy jazz, gospel, Bossa nova, Scottish folk, blues, acid rock, popular pop and instrumental…whatever my mood dictates.

Friendship: could I live breathe and without it? Possibly, but why would I want to? I’ve been fortunate enough to develop great friendships with people I’ve never met in person, but who add nuance and texture to my life, as I hope I add to theirs. My close friends—a handful at most, are the tangible spice that flavours my day-to-day life. They make me stop and think about what I’m doing and where I’m going, giving me perspective on my actions. These are the people who slap me with a “WTF were you thinking?” and aren’t shy to tell it as it is, whether I like it or not. Gold dust, and the sparkle in desert sands.

Passion: not just of the body, but of the mind. The day I stop feeling and thinking passionately about everything and everybody is the day I’ve died and nobody has bothered to tell me! I don’t do wishy-washy and I hate lukewarm. Grey is a colour that’s best suited to doves and nuns and I am neither of those things. I have been gifted with the ability to embrace many passions, and amongst my most enjoyable are reading and writing romance novels.

Laughter: tell me a sad story and I will weep for days; tell me something funny and I will smile for the rest of my life. The world is full of grief, traumas, and often horrific experiences, but I would not be where I am today had I not learned to laugh—at myself most of all.  I love slapstick, witty, stupid and intelligent humour. The sound of a child’s delighted giggle or a guffaw that makes a foghorn sound delicate. My favourite people are those who are generous with their smiles, who are uninhibited in their ability to see the funny side, even in their darkest moments.
About the Author:

Elise reads, writes and revels in romance, and is never happier than when caught up in a heart-thumping, sweat-your-socks-off tale—hers or somebody else’s.

She loves creating stories about flawed characters, people for whom love isn’t simply a question of boy-meets-girl, but a gut wrenching journey of transformation.
