An Excerpt from His Flower Queen:
“Did you follow me here?” she asked sharply, breaking the strained silence.
He ran his hands through his already ruffled hair. An agitated gesture she’d witness on occasion.
“No, I’ve been here all week,” he said, his tone abrupt. “I’ve been calling you. Why didn’t you return my messages?” He frowned slightly. “Do you know how worried I was when I didn’t hear back from you?”
Arrogance. One thing Gabe was never short of.
“I’m sorry,” she snapped. “I thought I was making it very clear that I didn’t want to talk to you, you lying bastard.”
He winced, then muttered a curse. “Nina, baby, I’m sorry. I wanted to tell you everything before you got here. I know you must be pissed and, really, I’m sorry. But nothing has to change between us.”
A thousand thoughts crossed Nina’s mind, but she couldn’t focus on any of them. She was too stunned. Did he expect to just keep his wife tucked away somewhere while he continued to see her? She was surprised by the pain and fury that swiftly rushed through her.
Before Nina could stop herself, she slapped him hard across the face. Her palm stung, but he barely flinched. He just stared down at her with stunned disbelief.
“You disgust me,” she spat. “Get out.”
