Captive Bride by Bonnie Dee

Captive Bride

Let me tell you the first and foremost, I loved Alan. I simply adored him and I’m going to gush about it throughout my review. He was so sweet from the beginning, I knew I’m gonna like him very much but boy as the story progressed, I fell in love... Huiann, you might have to scooch over dear! :p And, Bonnie Dee’s stories do have something so earthy and special about them, from Bone Deep to A Hearing Heart and now Captive Bride, another winner for me. The whole premise was very interesting and a Chinese heroine, a first for me. I loved the description of the post Civil War era San Francisco and its China Town. BD does have a gift for narrating history without making you bored and runny eyed. I absolutely loved the way Huiann and Alan’s relationship was described, which blossomed into love without even communicating properly. It proved that words don’t always have to be the means of communication for two people who are meant for each-other.

Well, not bad. Though I'm not a tattoo fan (for) myself, I've watched the TV shows LA Ink and Miami Ink and loved them. I admire the artistry and the people who do them, a lot. Also, I've just read a book by Bonnie Dee which I LOVED titled Bone Deep (my review is posted here), where the hero was tattooed all over his body, so this novella got me interested. Plus the hunk on the cover was a good sign, though I'm not sure if he's happy to be there lmaooo. :p

The Debutante's Dilemma by Elyse Mady

The Debutante's Dilemma (novella)

Elyse Mady
Historical Romance/Erotica (ménage)
Published in 2008.

H/h - Jeremy Battersley, Earl of Henley and Richard Huxley, Duke of Wexford/Cecilia Hestings
Setting: London, 1814.

Read in June, 2011.
My rating:

Ménages aren't my cuppa as I found out while reading this novella. I'm a total 'one man and one woman hopelessly in love'-type and sharing him with anyone else (and vice versa) isn't my kinda stuff. Reading something like that leaves me pretty uncomfortable. This was a free download and I was curious, a short story with the said debutante Cecilia and her two male friends Jeremy, an earl and Richard, a duke (look at the titles!); two veterans of war with Spain. The writing was ok. It seemed like they all liked each-other, love even and in the end, decided to 'share' that love. She let the one she's more attracted to strip her out of her virginity while 'petting' the other. She later married the 'more attracted to' one. The other one was invited 'frequently' in their house, as some gossip column reports. The end result?
Two hale, plump heirs who spent their days immured in the unending comfort which their wealthy and loving family could provide, and who were, as all who had been so distinguished as to admire them during one of their mother’s exclusive and sought-after at-homes could attest, as sweet and adorable as any two babies could possibly be. Of course, a more dissimilar pair it was hard to imagine. One blond, with soft blue eyes and the sweetest pair of dimples, the other dark, with a thick shock of brown hair that made him look quite rakish despite his diminutive size. But both were, despite these superficial differences, without doubt the apples of their doting parents’ eyes.

Oh great! ... 2.5 stars.

A short read by Bonnie Dee. The premise was interesting and there was a lot of sex but it didn’t really grip me the way I expected it to. Maybe because I had questions about things and wanted some more background. But, I guess I should be happy that this one had a virgin hero. Yup, and I have to say Turan was sweet, as any other BD hero.

A Hearing Heart

H/h - Jim Kinney/Catherine Johnson
Setting: Broughton, Nebraska, 1901.

Oh my! Another winner from Bonnie Dee and another hero I just wanna hug and kiss, want to hold close to my heart. A deaf-mute hero, I’ve never read about one before. Social inequality, I did but both together? I was interested to see how BD handles such a premise and she did so well, can’t explain. It was a sweet read overall but not saccharine sweet. There was no reason for it to be saccharine sweet because as I read on about Jim’s hard life and the unfairness of life in general... Let’s just say there were moments and scenes in the book simply brought tears to my eyes.

Once again, another author changed my POV about erotica, or Romantica, whatever you like to call it. This was my first Bonnie Dee book and I’m won over, totally. The setting and the whole premise of the book was so good, with BD’s simple yet beautiful narratives, I had a wonderful, wonderful time. It reminded me quite a lot about Lorraine Heath’s books. My only regret- I wish I had known Tom a little better. He was such a quiet man all through the story. But, either way, Tom melted my heart like a puddle of... something... I really don’t know. He was so so sweet and intense at the same time. *sigh*

Medieval Romance/Erotica

H/h - Lord Bronson Blackmore/Lady Elizabeth Alexandra 'Alex' Darrow
Setting: England/Scotland, 1540.

Read in Aug, 2011.
My rating:

Hmmm, kinda confused about what to write. I was so totally enjoying the book but at about halfway through, I lost it. There were things I just couldn’t take in, couldn’t AT ALL believe that Alexandra or ‘Alex’ and Bronson had anything like ‘love’ blossoming between them. Plot was so so; I had questions like how come for so many weeks, people couldn’t identify her as a girl, regardless of the fact that she lacks womanly curves? Was she that good in her disguise? Didn’t she have problems with the bindings and wigs, wearing them for such a long time, 24/7? But I was willing to overlook it all, had it not for how creepy Bronson turned out to be and Alex letting him act as one. How was it love, I don’t know.
